Show will go on in Lindale despite dispute over content
A planned school play by fifth-graders at E.J. Moss Intermediate School in Lindale that drew fire from a national group that called it an “egregious violation” of the First Amendment will go on after modifications.
However, the name of the play, “In God We Trust,” is not changing nor is the general idea behind the play.

Barbers Hill: BHISD: Board works on plan for campus security
Keeping schools safe from anyone with bad intentions was the subject of discussion at the May meeting of the Barbers Hill ISD school board this week and perhaps the best thing to come from that discussion was the addition of the school districtâ€(tm)s police chief, Kenny Widner, to the team assessing vestibule security. School board members asked administrators to look at the security of the campuses’ main entries not long after the tragic school shooting in Newtown, Conn., left 20 young students and six adults dead in December 2012. Allen ISD trustees approve salary proposal
Allen ISD trustees approved a 2013-14 salary proposal during their Monday board meeting. The proposal includes a starting teacher salary of $47,500 and a 2 percent midpoint increase in compensation for all employees. The proposal is based on a Texas Association of School Boards compensation plan evaluation of Allen ISD salaries and stipends. The drink vending machines in Bandera schools will stay, but the agreement between San Antonio Bottling Company and Bandera Independent School district will change from a contract to an agreement. Fort Stockton: School board hears needs assessment
The Fort Stockton School Board convened on Monday night to regard a full agenda at the district administration building. The board swore in Freddie Martinez, Sandra Marquez and Jacob Vasquez as members. Martinez defeated Ray Mesa in a recent election while Marquez and Vasquez ran unopposed. Additionally, Ken Ripley was confirmed as President of the Board, Oscar Gonzalez was selected as Vice President of the Board, Marquez was voted in as Secretary and Martinez was chosen as Assistant Secretary. Lindale 5th grade play to be modified after complaint by Freedom From Religion Foundation
Fifth graders at E.J. Moss Intermediate School of Lindale were scheduled to perform a musical theater program at the school on Thursday night titled, "In God We Trust." Now, due to a complaint from an organization called "Freedom From Religion Foundation," the school will not host the play with religious undertones, but a modified version sensitive to all viewers. Moody's Investors Service has assigned a Aaa underlying rating and stable outlook to Richardson Independent School District's (TX) $73.96 million Unlimited Tax School Building and Refunding Bonds, Series 2013. We have also assigned a Aaa enhanced rating to the current issues provided by a guarantee of the Texas Permanent School Fund (PSF). At the same time, we have affirmed the Aaa rating on $407.5 million in previously issued parity debt. Proceeds from the sale of the building bonds will be used to make capital improvements throughout the district. Proceeds from the sale of the refunding bonds will be used to refund certain maturities of the Series 2005 bonds for an expected net present value savings in excess of 6% and no extension of final maturity. HB 2824 passed: High Performance Schools Consortium districts get to experiment with accountability
If Gov. Perry signs the bill, a law that several North Texas school districts have been working for will kick in. To recap: After increasingly bitter complaints about TAKS and then STAAR, the legislature agreed two years ago to create a way for districts that had demonstrated success with the tests to try to come up with a better system. Thus was born the Texas High Performance Schools Consortium. Of the 23 districts that are included in the consortium, a bunch are in our area: Coppell, Duncanville, Highland Park, Irving, Lancaster, Lewisville, McKinney and Richardson. State Lawmakers Approve $28.4M for Pre School Education
Alabama: MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) State lawmakers approved and Governor Bentley signed in to law a $28.4 million for the Alabama’s First Class Pre-K Program. Perez reacts to Sen. Patrick's press conference on CScope
State Board of Education Member Marisa B. Perez provided the below response to yesterday’s press conference held by Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston, announcing that the CSCOPE curriculum management system will no longer provide lesson plans for the hundreds of public school districts currently utilizing them.
