Mt. Enterprise: MEISD sets 7-cent property tax increase
Mount Enterprise Independent School District trustees approved a total tax rate of $1.20 per $100 valuation for 2010-11 during its regular meeting Monday.
The new rate means school district property owners will see a 7-cent increase from last year's $1.13.
The 2010-11 budget was approved for $3.5 million, which is a slight decrease from $3.6 million last year.

Paul Pewitt lowers the tax rate, approves budget
The Paul Pewitt Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to adopt a lowered tax rate of $1.0995 Tuesday.
According to Superintendant David Fitts, the tax rate was lowered by a half a cent from the 2009-2010 tax rate.

Wylie: School Board Looks To Buy Land
The Wylie school board decided during its regular meeting Monday night to try and purchase 25 acres of land on the west side of the high school. The land is part of 30 acres owned by Lee Bledsoe. Wylie Superintendent Joey Light said buying the land would be a move for the future. “If we ever want to have future growth, it makes sense to go to the west,” he told the board. “It’s hard to project what we would do in the future. If we don’t take advantage of this, we are probably limiting future boards.”

Lubbock: LISD adopts budget with flat tax rate
The Lubbock Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a combined budget of almost $220 million for the 2010-11 fiscal year Thursday and maintained the same tax rate the district has had for the past two years.

Jasper ISD mourns loss of trustee
Jasper ISD lost one of its school board trustees last week when James Riley died from an apparent heart attack at his home in Jasper.
Riley was 68.
"The entire school community was and is shocked," said JISD Superintendent Dr. Jon Whittemore. "Mr. Riley, who served as the board's vice president, had been at our general convocation that very afternoon and seemed in fine form. He had arrived early for the event, which was his customâ¦nattily attiredâ¦and seemingly upbeat."

Henderson: HISD trustees will review budget, tax rate plans Tuesday
Henderson Independent School District trustees will consider a $25.7 million budget and a property tax rate of $1.18 during a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
A public hearing about the budget and tax rate will take place before the board votes on the 2010-11 plans. HISD's fiscal year begins Sept. 1.

Frenship school board unanimously approves budget, tax rate
Frenship Independent School District board members met Monday to approve a budget for the 2010-11 school year.
The board unanimously approved appropriations of $53.2 million for the general fund, $3.2 million for the food service fund and $11.8 million for the debt service fund.

Navarro: NISD OKs budget, tax rate for new fiscal year
Navarro ISD trustees adopted the 2010-2011 budget and tax rate in a special meeting Monday night. During the public hearing NISD superintendent Dee Carter mentioned that the amount of state funding per child that the district receives remains frozen, but added that the state has made some moves to correct inequity in the funding system.

Brownsville: Nine running for three slots on BISD board
Enrique Escobedo Jr. has switched seats in his bid for re-election to the BISD Board of Trustees, setting up a showdown with fellow board member Ruben Cortez Jr. for Position 2 on the board. Mauricio Paniagua is also running for the seat. In an e-mailed response to questions from The Brownsville Herald about the turn of events, Escobedo said some members of the Brownsville Independent School District board had "allowed special interest and politics to become part of our meetings and our decision making. I feel that we are a divided board. We’ve lost the enthusiasm shown two years ago and it has been replaced with personal vendettas, allegations and innuendoes.

Hunt, Center Point school elections are on
There will be school board elections in Hunt and Center Point independent school districts after all. A last-minute surge in candidates filing for the four at-large positions in Hunt and three open seats in Center Point mean that the November elections are on, despite speculation that the election might have been canceled due to not enough candidates filing.

Fort Worth trustees debate open-records requests
School board members clashed Tuesday night about the amount of information board members should request from administrators. Trustee Ann Sutherland announced that she has filed a complaint with the state attorney general's office because an open-records request that she gave to the district July 16 regarding legal expenses has not been fulfilled.

The terms of current president David Reiley, vice president Steve Ramsey, secretary Greg Gilcrease and trustee Bill Peek are up in November.
Superintendent Dee Carter said Greg Gilcrease was the only trustee to fill out a packet and return it to be placed on the November ballot.
