United ISD Hwy 359 Schools Elementary #28 and Middle School #10 Official Groundbreaking

Official Groundbreaking team for Hwy 359 Schools, Elementary #28 and Middle School #10 consisting of school Board Members, Juan Roberto Ramirez, Ricardo Rick Rodriguez, Ramiro Veliz III, Superintendent of Schools, Roberto J. Santos, United ISD Management, Eloy and Bonnie Garcia Family, contractors, engineers and Architect leading projects and student representatives from Antonio Gonzalez Middle School and Zaffirini Elementary School.

 

Laredo, TX: United ISD began a new chapter today with a formal

​ceremonial ​
groundbreaking to mark the construction for Hwy 359 Schools, Elementary #28 and Middle School #10. 

Leading the groundbreaking was United ISD Board of Trustees and Superintendent, Mr. Roberto J. Santos. Also in attendanc

was, ​Paul Leyendecker, from Leyendecker Construction, Juan Homero Sanchez Architect, working as the principal architect for Elementary 28, in collaboration with Metaform Architects Studio.  Working as the principal architect for Middle School #10, is Munoz and Company Architects, in collaboration with Cava​z​os Architects and Sepulveda Architects.

 

Hwy 359 Schools, Elementary #28 and Middle School #10 are projected for completion for the 2017-2018 school year.   The 30 acres of land where these schools are being constructed, was land that belonged to the late Eloy and Bonnie Garcia.  United ISD worked in partnership with the Garcia family to extend the EG Ranch Road Blvd.  They were instrumental in extending all utilities and providing the necessary infrastructure for the development and construction of our new schools.  “ Mr. & Mrs. Eloy and Bonnie Garcia, would never of dreamed of all the benefits that would result from their sacrifice many years ago in the purchase of this property,” said family representative, Mrs. Betty Flores.

 

Elementary school # 28, totals over 104,445 square feet in a single story building

​who will​
 serve approximately 950 young students. The main building entrance incorporates a new security station manned by district police officers to enhance school security and monitor day-to-day activities. When visitors, students and staff alike pass the security station and enter the building, they are received in a large lobby overlooking the central courtyard.   The four corners of the school are anchored by the library and computer lab, the Cafeteria and a multi–purpose gymnasium which also 
​acts ​
as a venue for school events and performances as it has a stage.  Over 45 classrooms overlook an enclosed courtyard or the surrounding campus, including 28 standard classrooms, 16 early education classrooms, 2 special education classrooms, 2 state-of-the art computer labs, a multi-purpose room, a science classroom and a music room as well.

 

Middle School #10 is a state of the art two-story educational building designed for a capacity of 1000 students for 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  It is 110,050 total square feet in area, organized by a central mall between a wraparound classroom wing on one side and the major school assembly spaces on the other.  The school has 27 classrooms, 4 science labs, 2 computer labs, 2 special education classrooms, an art classroom and a home economics classroom. A Fine Arts wing, which has a Band Hall, an Ensemble Room, a Rehearsal Room and 5 practice rooms with special acoustical treatments.

 

The school library is situated at the front of the school and a 10,340 square foot gymnasium with all amenities.  The kitchen and cafeteria features indoor/outdoor seating areas and a raised platform stage for events.  The building entry is equipped with a security station manned by a District police officer to monitor traffic into the building, with a secure entry vestibule. Along with the internal police station it will have camera surveillance capability of the facility. And for our athletes, on site practice playing fields area.

 

Mr. Frances Atwell from U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar’s Office gave a special recognition presentation to United ISD’s School Board of Trustees for their devotion to our community and children of United ISD.
