I must comment on Jim Largent, Superintendent of Granbury ISD, who announced his candidacy for State Representative District 60 Monday. I can’t think of a better candidate for the people of that area.

Largent hit the nail on the head in his press release when he stated,

I am very concerned that too many politicians today are taking their marching orders from powerful special interest and no longer represent the people who elected them. When politicians care more about pleasing a handful of wealthy elites than standing up for their districts, communities like ours lose our representation, I am running to take it back.

Those are wonderful words, Jim. I recently saw an East Texas candidate receive $500,000 donation from a San Antonio businessman and I wondered then who this person would represent when he voted in the House.

I have observed Jim in his superintendencies in Chireno and Rusk ISDs before he moved on to Granbury ISD. Jim is the type of person we need in state government. He is independent and a successful leader who believes strongly in local control. I therefore think he will be an outstanding representative for District 60.

Good Luck, Jim! - js - webmaster@texasisd.com
