SB 313 Passed out of Committee
SB 313 was heard Tuesday and passed out of committee today by a vote of 13-0. This bill will be one of the milestones for Texas public school education system. It is the only bill that addresses the breathe and deep of our state standards. I have been advocating for this bill for the pass two years and believe it may have a real chance of passing. This bill will give the classroom back to the teachers and give students the time to learn a reasonable amount of standards for their state exams. Please encourage anyone advocating for Texas Public schools to contact their senator and support SB 313.
Below is the TASA review of it:
SB 313 by Kel Seliger would establish procedures for the SBOE to review and modify the TEKS in the foundation subjects (English language arts, math, science, and social studies) by narrowing the content and scope of the standards and skills for each subject and grade level. The process would be completed by September 1, 2018. Until the review and modification is completed, and beginning with the 2015-16 school year, the SBOE would be required to ensure that statewide assessment instruments assess only essential knowledge and skills identified as readiness standards by the agency. In addition, the SBOE would be required to adopt a chart that clearly indicates the alignment of the college-readiness standards and expectations with the essential knowledge and skills.
Thanks to Randy Willis/ Granger ISD for this report.
