OLNEY, Texas (KAUZ) - Olney ISD has announced that due to excessive absences due to illness, all Olney ISD campuses will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 23, and Wednesday, Jan. 24. They made the announcement over Facebook and said this should give students and staff some time to recover, and for OISD maintenance staff to sanitize all facilities. School is set to resume on Thursday, Jan. 25. view article
Multiple crews are responding to a fire at the Pittsburg Independent School District bus maintenance facility that started early Tuesday morning. Fire crews responded to the bus barn on Broach Street, across from the junior high campus, around 4:00 a.m. No injuries were reported and none of the buses were damaged. view article
Patton Springs school moving forward after fire destroys music building, storage facility
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Patton Springs ISD is sorting through the ashes today to see what’s left of its music and storage facility, which burned this week. A Tuesday evening music class turned into a scare for some Patton Springs students. Superintendent Bryan White described the events of that day. “They were in music class, and they heard some crackling in the ceiling, and they saw some smoke,” Patton Springs Superintendent Bryan White said. The adults quickly got the kids out of the building, along with any equipment they could carry and called the Dickens Volunteer Fire Department. Upon arrival, the firefighters put out a small fire. But Bryan White said they didn’t know what would happen next. view article

High school student among 3 killed after power line falls on car; toddler sole survivor
PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Three people, including a high school student, died Wednesday morning after a power line fell on a car in Oregon. In a letter to parents, Milwaukie High School principal, Kim Kellogg, identified the student as Ta'Ron Briggs, a 10th grader. view article

Vidor ISD estimates more than $12 million in damages, hoping for state, FEMA assistance

Burnet school district officials were probably expecting to get more than two years from the synthetic turf installed at Bulldog Field in 2015, but that didn’t happen and it’s now set the district back $150,000. Burnet Consolidated Independent School District Superintendent Keith McBurnett, however, said the district is looking to get $105,000 back from one manufacturer. Last year, officials noticed some turf fibers sticking up higher than others, so they took a closer look, McBurnett said. “To most people, it probably wasn’t noticeable,” he said. “We had all the experts look at the field, and they looked at the backside. A teen who was severely bruised in a "brutal and excessive" nightstick attack by a Pasadena ISD school resource officer has settled his federal lawsuit for $60,000. Cesar Suquet Jr. was 16 in May 2014 when he went to the principal's office at South Houston High School to retrieve his cell phone, which had been confiscated earlier that day. Three students from Stehlik Intermediate School in the Aldine Independent School District were taken to an area hospital Tuesday morning after a minor collision with a cement mixer. The wreck happened about 8 a.m. on West Road at Deer Trail Drive as the bus was transporting students to the school at 400 West Road, a school district spokeswoman said.
