With fewer students and new programs in need of funding, a challenging school year is on the horizon for Dallas ISD
Six months ahead of approving its budget, Dallas ISD gave an early look of its expected financial challenges — and hopeful district-wide goals — for the 2017-18 school year. During a board briefing on Thursday, DISD's chief financial officer, Jim Terry, presented a "very, very preliminary" glimpse at the upcoming budget. At first glance, it showed an effort to balance two divergent realities: the district's wish to expand or sustain many of its new programs — such as its early college high schools and early childhood education — and an impending budget crunch brought on by declining student enrollment.
