On Monday, February 13, the Tyler ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to call a bond election on May 6, 2017 for $198 million to address the facilities at John Tyler High School and Robert E. Lee High School. The bond was recommended by administration for board consideration after speaking with a cross section of the community, including business leaders, campus staff, district administrators, parents, community members and civic leaders.

The $198 million bond will fund, included but not limited to, the following projects at the High Schools:

 *   Collegiate, Career, and Tech preparatory classrooms and other flexible learning spaces
 *   Facilities to meet or exceed all building and mechanical codes; ADA; TEA; Title I; and UIL standards
 *   Safe and secure access controls
 *   Structured and strategic circulation spaces for student supervision and limited climate exposure
 *   Energy efficient facilities
 *   Updated and cohesive building facades
 *   Modern and accessible Library/Media Centers
 *   6A standard extra-curricular spaces (Band, Choir, Orchestra, Drama, Visual Arts, Dance, Athletics and support groups, etc.)
 *   Kitchen/Cafeteria areas suitable for enrollments
 *   Removal of all portable/temporary buildings
 *   Along with other facility additions and renovations to relative programs not listed here

In addition to understanding the bond proposal, please make yourself aware of the laws prohibiting school district staff from using district money, time or resources to advocate for or against a position on the bond. The Communications Department will email a detailed document to all staff to help you better understand what can and cannot be said by district employees.
