The big takeaway from today’s news, March 19, 2020 comes from James Wilcox, Superintendent of Longview ISD. I respect Dr. Wilcox when it comes to issues requiring wisdom. Dr. Wilcox is quoted in the Longview News article as follows:

Longview ISD Superintendent James Wilcox told trustees he does not expect students to return to classrooms before the end of the school year after the district closure to prevent spread of the new coronavirus.

“We’re not going to have school again inside this school year,” he said at Monday’s board meeting. “If we do, I’ll be surprised.”

He also emphasized many times the situation is fluid and could change day-by-day.

No superintendent takes lightly reporting such news to school boards, therefore, he meant what he said and it is a good piece of advice. Our biggest shortcoming so far is we are not doing what we know to do. This is going to cause the current situation to last longer and impact more people. So I commend Wilcox for his bold comments today. - js- webmaster@texasisd.com
