Repost!  There are articles in most every Texas newspaper today announcing that today, January 15, is the first day for candidates for public school board members to sign up. There is always a little anxiety when this day comes around regarding the possibility of your adversaries signing up to run. - You will need to get new board members (and even those wishing to become board members) involved in training activities ASAP.

The Texas Association of School Boards offers many options for training. You look for training for a variety of reasons: to better understand your role, to be versed in the regulations and issues of a particular field, or, sometimes, for the very practical reason of meeting your continuing education credit requirements. Whatever your need and area of interest, TASB offers professional training that you can use. The following links will give you a preview:

TASB will also develop a Training Package to meet your needs. I am a firm believer in proactive training which allows board members to discuss roles and issues and reconsider some beliefs that may not be in the best interest of students. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. -js- webmaster@texasisd.com
