Equity Center Legislative Update: Texas Commission on Public School Finance
For the last month and a half the state's focus has rightly been on responding to the effects of Hurricane Harvey. The House Appropriations and Public Education Committees have met to take input from relevant state agencies, local municipalities, and school districts, and remediation costs are finally starting to surface.
Last week the first appointments were made to the Texas Commission on Public School Finance. Lt. Governor Dan Patrick announced his appointments alongside the appointment made by the Chair of the State Board of Education. We are still waiting on appointments from the Speaker of the House and Governor Abbott.
In this legislative update we talk briefly about the appointments and recent correspondence from the Commissioner of Education on ADA adjustments being made for districts affected by the hurricane. Also included is a link to an interview in the Texas Tribune with Doug Killian, the superintendent of Pflugerville ISD and recent appointee to the Texas Commission on Public School Finance.
