A Lockhart High School science teacher has been arrested for having an improper relationship with a 17-year-old male student. Sarah Fowlkes started at the district in October 2014. On March 10, 2017 a school administrator reached out to Lockhart Police after receiving a "concerning report." LPD launched an investigation and determined Fowlkes was engaged in sexual contact with the student. view article arw

The Frisco School District has released documents tied to the investigation of racist comments made by a former football coach. Todd Campbell was an assistant coach at Centennial High School. An El Paso ISD parent was shocked by what she says a Chapin High teacher drew on her son's class assignment. "I'm an educator myself so I said, there's no way the teacher really did this," said parent Sandra Green. According to Green and the EPISD -- it happened. Tomball Independent School District recently welcomed a few new faces for the start of the new year. Marcy Canady has been selected as the district’s director of bilingual services. Canady has worked in education for 28 years. She joined Tomball two years ago as the principal of Canyon Pointe Elementary. She began her career as an elementary bilingual teacher in Goose Creek ISD. She also served in Tyler, Spring Branch, and Katy. Her background includes both campus and central office experience. view article arw

Tyler Independent School District trustees accepted the resignation of Peete Elementary School Principal John Dees during their Monday meeting. Dees has been principal since July 2012. He previously was assistant principal in Grand Prairie Independent School District for about five years. In an unrelated action, the board accepted bids for new fitness equipment for weight rooms at John Tyler and Robert E. Lee high schools. Purchase price for each school is $119,893, for a total of $239,786. view article arw

A teenager says a substitute teacher with the  Conroe Independent School District groped her in class. The alleged victim's mother tells Local 2 she wants the school to take a tougher stance. According to a probable cause affidavit, the Princeton High School teacher initiated the relationship with the student. The teen said that teacher Saralyn Portwood started complimenting him earlier this year on his appearance and telling him he was handsome. She also would brush up against him, touch him inappropriately and send him texts, the affidavit stated. The student said during a forensic interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County that he did not want to be involved with Portwood and told her so several times. “She persisted, and he did not know how or who to tell,” the affidavit states.
