Congratulations to Mr. Ricardo Trevino on becoming the New Superintendent of Schools for Taft Independent School District. Mr. Trevino has been with the District for 22 years and in Education for 25 years.

Mr. Trevino is a product of Taft ISD.  Born and raised in Taft, he attended Taft schools and graduated in 1989. He comes from a family of 7 siblings, including a twin brother, and was a typical economically disadvantaged Taft student.  Upon graduation, he attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology.  He then returned to Taft, where he worked as a paraprofessional, before becoming Alternatively Certified in Special Education.  He taught three years in Robstown ISD in a Behavior Unit at Seale Junior High School. Once again, he returned to Taft as a Special Education Teacher at East Elementary where he taught for 4 years as he completed his Masters Degree in Educational Administration.  He was then named the Assistant Principal at Woodroe Petty Elementary.  After two years, he became the Principal at Taft Junior High School, where he served for eight years.  His next assignment was Principal of Woodroe Petty Elementary, where they took an unacceptable campus of four years to acceptable.  For the next five years, he has served at the Administration Office in a variety of roles.  Now he has the privilege to be our Superintendent of Schools.

“I am passionate about Taft ISD, as I can see myself in every one of our students. I am passionate about education as some of my best role models were paraprofessionals, teachers, coaches, and administrators.  And if this Taft kid can become Superintendent, then the sky is the limit for our current Taft kids.  My current priority is to provide our students an Excellent Education.  It is only through providing good solid instruction in the classroom that we can reduce the number of struggling students, take students to new heights, and send off our students into the real world with a solid foundation.” Ricardo Trevino, Superintendent of Schools, Taft ISD.
