Lubbock ISD board votes to close Dupre Elementary
“Dupre is a historical school - there is no reason to close that school,” Chavez said. “There's 200 students, five more students jumped in on board just last week.” Superintendent Kathy Rollo said the proposal was not a reflection of the quality or value of the school, its students or neighborhood, but came down to numbers and being able to offer the best services to students in an efficient manner. Dupre, she said, is the smallest elementary campus in LISD, with about 200 students. That's up from 195 students last week, but well below the school's capacity of about 330 and average enrollment at other elementary campuses. Operating a school with 200 or fewer students, she said, is far more costly than a school with 500 students.
