Police in San Juan took a middle schooler into custody after the student took an unloaded pistol to school. According to a PSJA ISD press release, the Raul Yzaguirre Middle School student showed the pistol to a classmate. The eighth-grader had the weapon and some bars of Xanax hidden inside his backpack. We’re told the classmate immediately reported the incident to school staff. The student was removed from the classroom. He’s expected to face legal consequences and the maximum school discipline. view article arw

That’s what parents and classmates of MacArthur High School senior Jose Torres want to know in the wake of his death. Parents said the school speed zone signs were not flashing when Torres was hit and killed. Torres was struck and killed by a driver reportedly going up to 40 mph on Aldine Mail Route. An Abilene ISD bus driver was assaulted Monday morning. Police reports say the driver was transporting students back to the Abilene State Supported Living Center when one of the students refused to stay in his seat. The driver pulled over when he wouldn't sit down as requested, and after she stopped the bus, "the student began punching and kicking the bus driver," according to the reports. view article arw

Two gunmen were killed Sunday night in Garland after opening fire on a security officer outside a provocative contest for cartoon depictions of Prophet Muhammad, and a bomb squad was called in to search their vehicle as a precaution, authorities said. Police were using robotic detection equipment to search the vehicle. The sister of the first Ebola patient diagnosed in the United States says her brother told relatives he notified officials the first time he went to the hospital that he was visiting from Liberia. Our Dallas station WFAA has identified the patient as Thomas Eric Duncan. His sister, Mai Wureh, says her brother went to a Dallas emergency room on Friday and they sent him home with antibiotics. Three students from Stehlik Intermediate School in the Aldine Independent School District were taken to an area hospital Tuesday morning after a minor collision with a cement mixer. The wreck happened about 8 a.m. on West Road at Deer Trail Drive as the bus was transporting students to the school at 400 West Road, a school district spokeswoman said.
