Statement from TASB Associate Executive Director Grover Campbell on Texas Speaker of the House Joe Straus’ assignment of school finance interim charges:

TASB wholeheartedly supports House Speaker Joe Straus’ leadership in addressing the broken school finance system despite the unexpected and potentially harmful ruling of the Supreme Court. With the Court’s finding that our school finance system meets minimum constitutional requirements, the Legislature is under no judicial mandate to revamp the state’s deteriorating funding model.
We hope that Speaker Straus’ action on this issue prompts legislators to seek out and consider forward-thinking solutions that will foster a public education system worthy of our children, not a system that meets the bare minimum.
