Fort Worth ISD is reassigning a principal days after news of her hire attracted backlash from conservative groups online. The district earlier this week announced Shayma Alzubi as the new principal of Western Hills High School. The announcement – which featured a photo of Alzubi, who wears a hijab – was circulated by the far-right account Libs of TikTok alongside screenshots showing Alzubi supporting Black Lives Matter, Palestinians and immigrants. The account also encouraged followers to contact the district’s superintendent. Fort Worth ISD later removed its post. The district confirmed Alzubi has been reassigned pending an internal investigation, but did not provide further details. In a statement, Fort Worth ISD said it determined her social media posts "may not align" with district policy and "expectations for staff."

Religious leaders, educators call for reinstatement of Muslim Fort Worth ISD principal
Religious leaders, community activists and teachers called on Fort Worth ISD to reinstate a Muslim educator reassigned from her newly appointed role as principal after the announcement of her hire drew online backlash. FWISD announced Shayma Alzubi as Western Hills High School’s new principal in late May, but reassigned her from the role after screenshots of Alzubi’s social media that were circulated online indicated her support of the Black Lives Matter movement, Palestinians and immigrants. Alzubi, an assistant principal at Southwest High School, now faces an investigation after the district determined the posts may not align with the district’s social media policy and expectations for staff, Louis Kushner, chief of staff, said in a May 26 statement. Our district leaders, educators and staff will not inject personal political perspectives into classrooms,” Kushner wrote.

Regents of the University of North Texas System approved dozens of tenure applications, without public discussion, as part of their recent quarterly meeting. The tenure applications cover all UNT institutions, with the bulk coming from the main campus in Denton. Supporting documents for these applications covered more than 30 percent of the 155-page agenda book for the meeting. The applications were passed on the consent agenda. Consent agendas are a tool designed to allow governmental bodies to quickly move through non-controversial items but are frequently abused to hide controversial measures. Texas Scorecard performed a basic search on these applications and found several with backgrounds in far-left “scholarship” covering areas like critical race theory and LGBT activism. Much of this material is also available in the regents’ agenda book.

District data presented to the board shows Midway ISD salaries remain at or near market averages compared to similar districts, generally ranging from 95% to 104% of market pay depending on experience.
