NEW BOSTON, Texas -- About 200 votes made the difference for each of two Texarkana Independent School District bond items, according to complete but unofficial results. On TISD Proposition A, 3,534 votes were cast for and 3,311 against. The TISD Proposition B totals were 3,465 for and 3,327 against. The bond asked voters to consider a $189 million package with two propositions. "We are very grateful to our Texarkana ISD community," TISD Superintendent Dr. Doug Brubaker said. "These additions will help replace schools that were an average of 82 years old, and open opportunities for so many young students. Approval of this bond program by the voters will help us to address several issues that children, parents, and staff members have been experiencing for years.

" Proposition A is for $130 million. It includes safety and security upgrades, a prekindergarten replacement school that would keep the Paul Laurence Dunbar name, a replacement elementary school on the district's Pine Street site for Highland Park and Spring Lake Park students, additions and renovations to Wake Village Elementary School and new school buses. The estimated tax impact for Proposition A would be a $9.06 per month increase for a home valued at $119,550. Proposition B is $59 million. It is for new and existing facilities for Career and Technical Education at the Texas High School campus. The estimated tax impact for Proposition B would be a $4.12 per month increase for a home valued at $119,550. The last Texarkana ISD bond passed eight years ago in 2014. TISD constructed the Waggoner Creek Elementary School and the Sixth Grade Center on the Texas Middle School campus with the proceeds of those bonds. Homeowners 65 and older will not be impacted by the passage of the bond propositions if they have filed for and received the Over 65 Homestead Exemption with Bowie Central Appraisal District.
