Obituary: Sally W. Smith
Sally (Womack) Smith, age 79, of Lufkin, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 4th, 2026. She was born on November 1, 1946, in Lufkin, Texas, where she spent her life loving, serving, and caring for others.
Sally was a beloved mother and a devoted wife who dedicated her life to her family. Her gentle spirit, quiet strength, and unwavering love were a steady foundation for those around her. She took great joy in time spent with her grandson, especially cherishing simple moments together that became lasting memories.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Danny Womack, Lovick “Blitz” Womack, and Susan (Womack) Teutsch.
Sally is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, Joe Smith; her son, Joshua Smith; her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Smith; and her grandson, Jason Smith, who was a constant source of pride and joy.
Professionally, Sally devoted her life to education as a career teacher. She taught in Mesquite ISD and Lufkin ISD, and spent the majority of her career at Hudson ISD as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher. Though quiet by nature, Sally was animated and full of life in her classroom. She loved each of her students deeply and cared for them not only during the school day, but far beyond it. Her compassion, patience, and genuine concern for children left a lasting impression on countless families and former students.
Sally was a longtime and faithful member of Believers’ Bible Church, where her Christian faith guided her life, her service, and her love for others. She reflected Christ through her actions—steadfast, humble, and kind.
Outside of teaching and family, Sally enjoyed RV travel, reading, and spending meaningful time with those she loved most. Her life was one of quiet faithfulness, lived not for recognition, but for service, love, and obedience to God.
Sally will be remembered as a loving mother, a devoted educator, a faithful Christian, and a woman whose life was defined by compassion, dedication, and grace. Her legacy lives on in her family and in the many young lives she shaped with love.
A private burial will be held in Bronson, Texas. A memorial service will be held on June 6th, 10:30am at Believers Bible Church, 408 S Medford Dr, Lufkin, TX 75901
