BELTON, Texas (KWTX) Dr. Matthew Smith has been on the job as Belton ISD's new superintendent for one week and says he couldn't be more excited to finally be getting started.  He spent the week visiting all the schools in the district, meeting students, teachers and staff.  Before his first day on the job, the district invited members of the community to complete a survey, of what they wanted Smith to know about Belton.  Smith says the information is vital to how he will make his plans for the district.  "We're interested in trying to listen to the community right off the bat make sure that we are listening more than we're talking right now," Smith said. view article arw

The unanimous vote took place during a special meeting held Wednesday. Texas law requires the NISD board wait 21 days before formally approving a contract with Trujillo; a regular meeting of the NISD trustees is planned for March 26.“We’re eager to bring Dr. Trujillo to Nacogdoches,” said G.W. Lumberton Independent School District’s board of trustees will consider accepting the resignation of their Superintendent Gerald Chandler, who has served in the position since April of 2018.  Chandler moved to Lumberton to “fulfill his dream of moving to Lumberton and working to create a newly formed agriculture program.”  He taught in the district for four years before being promoted to Assistant Principal at Lumberton High School. He also served as a principal at Lumberton Intermediate School before he was named Superintendent in 2018.   (05) view article arw

The Weatherford ISD Board of Trustees selected Mr. Rod Townsend to serve as the interim superintendent while they undergo a search for a permanent candidate to replace Dr. Jeffrey Hanks who recently announced his retirement.  Mike Guest, WISD school board president said, “Mr. Townsend has over 35 years of experience in public education that includes serving as superintendent of schools for Rochester, Hico, and Decatur ISDs. He also held several leadership positions with the Texas Association of School Administrators, including president in 2011-2012. Since his retirement in 2017, he has served as interim superintendent for both Spring Hill ISD and Peaster ISD.” view article arw

Students, teachers, administrators and local business owners had the chance to provide input on the hiring of a new superintendent at Lake Travis ISD during a series of focus groups Feb. 27.  Superintendent Brad Lancaster announced his official plans for retirement Oct. 18, with his last day with the district scheduled for July 1.  Following his announcement, LTISD contracted services from Houston-based law firm Thompson & Horton LLP to aid in the search process. view article arw

DEL VALLE, Texas - The Del Valle ISD Board of Trustees has named a finalist for superintendent.  Dr. Annette Tielle, the current interim superintendent, was named the lone finalist at the March 2 board meeting. By law, the Board must now wait 21 days before voting to hire her to the position.  The DVISD Board of Trustees named Dr. Annette Tielle as the lone finalist for Superintendent. The Jasper Independent School District has chosen current Director of Operations Jon Seybold as their lone finalist for the open Superintendent's position. The decision came in the form of a unanimous vote during a special called meeting of the board on Monday evening.  Board Member Vickie Stewart made the motion to select Seybold, and it was seconded by Board Member LeQuin Hilderbrand. After three hours of interviewing and negotiating, the Española School Board voted to hire Fred Trujillo as the new superintendent of the Española School District.  Trujillo, who has served as the superintendent for the Pecos School District for the past nine years, said after he was hired that Española would be a challenge for him, but also an exciting opportunity.  “I know there’s going to be a lot of challenges,” he said. view article arw

WINNSBORO, Texas (KLTV) - Winnsboro ISD has named a lone finalist for its superintendent position.  Chris McElyea, the president of the Winnsboro ISD school board, said Sunday that the school district named Dave Wilcox as the lone superintendent finalist at Saturday’s board meeting.  Wilcox is coming to Winnsboro ISD from Atlanta ISD, where he served as the school district’s assistant superintendent.  McElyea explained that the state of Texas requires that school districts name lone finalists for their superintendent positions. The Board of Trustees has named Jay Ratcliff (current Superintendent of Big Sandy ISD) as Lone Finalist for the superintendent's position. Jay is a very experienced superintendent and is well known in the area. He will be a GREAT fit for Harleton ISD. Jay will be in-district one day this week and I will try to introduce him to as many folks as possible. He will begin duties sometime after March 15th.

The Latexo Independent School District Board of Trustees made it official on Thursday, March 7 as they announced Latexo High School Principal Michael Woodard was the lone finalist for the Latexo ISD superintendent’s position. Latexo ISD Board President Kelly Nicol opened the meeting and informed those in attendance, “In our last meeting on Tuesday (March 5) – at about 10 pm – we named Mr. Michael Woodard as our lone finalist for the Latexo ISD superintendent’s position.” view article arw

The Leander ISD Board of Trustees named Dan Troxell, Ph.D., as the lone finalist to be the district’s new superintendent. Troxell has been superintendent of Kerrville ISD for 14 years, and was named Superintendent of the Year by the Texas Association of School Boards in 2008. Troxell also previously worked for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, Allen ISD and Round Rock ISD. view article arw
