Superintendent Lone Finalist: John Griggs was named the Lone Finalist for the Blooming Grove ISD Superintendent position during a Feb.1, 2024 special school board meeting. The district received 43 applicants for the position. John Griggs was selected after an extensive search and interview process. Mr. Griggs was approved for the position on a unanimous 7-0 vote. State law requires that school boards observe a 21 day waiting period before a lone finalist can officially enter into an employment contract.

John Griggs has 17 years of education experience, having served in various leadership positions, including teaching,  coaching and administration at the elementary and high school levels. Mr. Griggs is currently the High School Principal at Mexia High School. Mr. Griggs is married to Traycie Griggs, and they have two children, Finley Faye Griggs, 5, and Manton Griggs, 7. Traycie is currently an Assistant Principal at Corsicana High School. 

Statement from Mr. Griggs: I am incredibly excited to have the opportunity to serve the students, staff, and community of Blooming Grove as the Superintendent.  I look forward to working with the Board of Trustees to continue and grow the opportunities for the amazing students and staff of Blooming Grove ISD. Being a lifelong resident of Navarro County, I am familiar with the rich tradition of athletics, agriculture, and academics of Blooming Grove ISD. Blooming Grove is a community that has historically rallied around the school and has a sense of pride that was very attractive to my family. 

Statement from BG Board President Valerie Richards: One of the responsibilities of a school board is to hire the Superintendent. The board, with the guidance of Mr. Martel, has been diligently searching for the best candidate to lead our district. After careful consideration, we are pleased to name John Griggs as the Lone Finalist for Superintendent of BGISD. Mr. Griggs passion for education and student achievement will move the district forward on the path to excellence. We want to extend our sincerest appreciation to our community for providing feedback through the online survey, and to Mr. Martel for his significant leadership in providing us with a wide range of applicants to consider.
