As recommended by Gov. Greg Abbott through the School and Firearm Safety Action Plan, Edinburg CISD launched the Youth Mental Health First Aid Program in January 2019. The program will supply mental health trainings and certifications for our 2,754 school professionals and will offer mental health education to our students.

The program is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help adolescents (ages 12 to 18) who are experiencing mental health challenges.

Since January 2019, the District has certified more than 500 school administrators, teachers, and campus police officers. As part of our ongoing commitment in connecting with our families, schools and communities, we have also trained and certified more than 125 parents.
