School funding remains unconstitutional - Comments from Rep. Trent Ashby (R- Lufkin)
State Rep. Trent Ashby (R-Lufkin) said education should be equal for all children, regardless of where they live.
“This ruling simply confirms what most East Texans already know,” Ashby said. “We’ve got to have a more equitable school finance system in Texas that doesn’t create a de-facto statewide property tax. The undeniable truth is that the children in rural Texas are worth just as much as those living in wealthier areas of the state. We need to devise a funding formula that doesn’t discriminate by zip codes, but rather helps all Texas school children have access to a quality education.” - from Lufkin Daily News article by Rhonda Oaks
