Area school board candidates and interested citizens can learn more about the demands and rewards of school board service by participating in a free webinar offered by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). This online workshop will take place February 23, March 26, and July 28 from noon to 1 p.m. and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (all CST).

Preparing to Serve: A Free Webinar for School Board Candidates will help attendees understand what is involved in being elected to and serving on a local board. Community members interested in running for their local board will learn about candidate qualifications, how to campaign constructively, and where to find helpful resources and information.

Senior consultants with TASB Leadership Team Services and experienced school board members will explain what to expect once elected to the board. Topics include board members’ key responsibilities, including the difference between the board and the superintendent’s role, and qualities necessary for effective service.

The free workshops are open to anyone, but registration is required. For details or to register, go to Webinars at LTS.tasb.org. Participants should preregister at least three hours before the webinar to download the handout material. For more information, call TASB Leadership Team Services, 800.580.8272, extension 2452.

TASB is a nonprofit association established in 1949 to serve local Texas school districts. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 5 million public school students.
