Fort Worth ISD trustees discuss possibly closing as many as 25 schools to rightsize district
Interim Superintendent Karen Molinar knows Fort Worth ISD needs to close schools. She isn’t sure when or how many. However, she knows the district cannot keep stretching resources into too many classrooms with too few students. “We’re trying to staff 140 buildings when we do not need that many buildings,” Molinar told the Fort Worth ISD Council of PTAs during its annual luncheon Feb. 11. “When we do consolidate, we’re going to be able to increase the resources for our students.”

Critics of Texas House leadership spent big in this year’s speaker’s race. They fought years for that chance.
A pair of lawsuits filed by allies of West Texas megadonor Tim Dunn shut down laws that banned outside spending in the House leadership race, allowing for more political mudslinging and raising questions about ethics rules. Voters in state Rep. Cody Harris’ East Texas district were flooded with text messages the week before the legislative session kicked off. The barrage of attacks accused the Palestine Republican of colluding with Democrats to elect a speaker of the Texas House. “A small group of Republican Texas House members are trying to cut a deal with a majority Democrat coalition to elect a speaker who will kill our conservative policies” said one text, which included a disclosure that it was paid for by the Republican Party of Texas. “Unfortunately, your Representative Cody Harris decided to ignore the Trump mandate and is working with the Democrats to stop the GOP nominee.”

‘Y’all Street’ takes on Wall Street as dueling stock exchanges head to Texas
In an effort to keep Texas "Texas," the Lone Star State will now have two dueling stock exchanges to call its own. The New York Stock Exchange announced on Wednesday that it will launch an exchange in Texas, increasing competition among listing venues. NYSE Chicago will incorporate in Texas and be renamed NYSE Texas, giving companies an option to list their stocks in the Lone Star State. The NYSE announcement did not include a timetable but said it would launch its equities exchange in Dallas. The news comes as the Texas Stock Exchange (TXSE Group) said on Jan. 31 that it plans to start trading in 2026 after getting $161 million in backing from BlackRock, Citadel Securities, Charles Schwab and Dell Family Office. Several high-profile firms, including Elon Musk's Tesla and SpaceX, have relocated their headquarters to Texas, drawn to the state's business-friendly reputation. Meta Platforms is exploring a similar move. Over the past decade, more than 300 companies have relocated their headquarters to the state, according to Gov. Greg Abbott's office, including Tesla, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Chevron and Charles Schwab.
